A clear view of the numbers behind Pennsylvania organic agriculture.
This page gathers the latest statewide figures available from public sources. The figures below draw on two different reporting years, 2021 and 2022, so each statistic names its source year rather than treating unlike surveys as a single trend line.

A diverse agricultural base, with organic production concentrated in a few major categories.
Pennsylvania’s 49,053 farms generated more than $10.28 billion in agricultural product sales in 2022. Within that statewide picture, certified organic product sales totaled $628 million across 935 reporting operations. The figures are not a measure of every farm that uses ecological or soil-centered practices. They describe the certified organic products and operations counted in the Census of Agriculture.
The 2022 Census analysis also shows how concentrated reported organic sales were. Operations with more than $1 million in organic sales made up 18.1% of reporting organic operations and accounted for 84.9% of organic sales. Smaller operations remain part of the story: 31.4% of reporting organic operations were in the $50,000 to $249,999 sales range.
For the 2021 Organic Survey, Pennsylvania’s Department of Agriculture reports that the Commonwealth led the nation in organic livestock and poultry sales at $730 million and in organic mushroom sales at $95.4 million. These sector figures help explain why state-level organic sales can move differently from what a visitor sees at a farm stand, garden, or small growing operation.
People in the work
Organic producers were younger than the statewide average in the 2022 Census analysis.
The Center for Rural Pennsylvania reports an average age of 48 for organic producers in 2022, compared with 55 for Pennsylvania producers overall. The figure is a statewide average, not a prediction about any individual farmer. It is useful context for educators, local food organizations, and writers looking at the future of agricultural knowledge and farm transition.
YAHSHUA is being developed around soil-grown gardening, practical learning, and faithful care for the land. The numbers here offer regional context for that work while keeping the distinction clear: YAHSHUA’s farm and retreat plans are still moving toward 2027, and this page reports Pennsylvania-wide public data, not YAHSHUA operating results.

How to use this reference.
Every figure is tied to the public source that reports it. “Certified organic” follows the definition used by the cited survey or Census source. Because the 2021 Organic Survey and 2022 Census of Agriculture use different reporting programs and dates, this page does not calculate year-to-year growth from their figures. It will be refreshed when a newer authoritative statewide release becomes available.
